Educational Training & Simulation
Over the past 2 decades, key waveI members have developed educational and training tools,
software systems, games, simulations and demonstrations for Massachusetts based schools and corporate
clients specializing in software solutions for the DoD, including the Army, Air Force, Navy and OSD's
Defense Health Program. The Flash and Unity 3D games premiering in the left and right columns were
developed from the ground up by waveI staff.

In addition to
serious games, several immersive 3D virtual world training simulations (such as the
"iPad Checkpoint Simulation" pictured to the right) were developed for use in browsers and handhelds. The simulations usually
involve the user controlling a first person character to interact and complete tasks directed toward training
a specific skill or procedure.
Recently, functionality was integrated into a client's custom Learning Management System (LMS) and windows based
Lesson Creation authoring software. Development using Miscrosoft's Visual Studio required C# and MSSQL. Significant
improvements included the addition of import support and a drag/drop interface for audio, video, flash, PDF, Word,
PowerPoint and Excel file formats. Software utilities were created and integrated into the authoring tool to support
automatic conversion of all media data to a web supported format for cross-browser functionality. In addition, a recording module
and Text-To-Speech module were integrated into the authoring tool that allow for student activated voice-overs and lesson instruction/presentation.

Alcohol Awareness
The Alcohol Awareness Flash Game is one component of a larger online training
environment. Rapid development was made possible by use of the PushButton Engine (PBE).
The game communicates with a custom Learning Management System (LMS)
and depends on the progress and training level of a student in a lesson. Student
questionnaires, quiz performance and customized selections are used to seed start-up
parameters of the Flash game. Results of game play are returned to the LMS and are
immediately used to determine an online student's next screen or series of screens in the
training material. Bad performance may result in remediation while outstanding performance
may lead to presentation of advanced training materials.
The game portion takes place in a motor pool and requires a player to steer tires to a stacker
while avoiding hazards or hitting targets along the way. You may test out an abridged version
of the game on our
Demos Page. The complete "training" version of the
flash game includes interaction between the player and "stacker" through exchange of
question / answer and comment / response selections of alcohol behavioral content. All "interactions"
are converted into male or female character voice audio files via our custom scripting environment.

Medical Training
The Unity3D medical game is a prototype "Edu-Gaming" system that demonstrates training in
a 3D interactive environment. A complete mockup of an EMEDs hospital, true to scale and layout, allows
different levels of medical personnel to refresh previous onsite training, but in a remote online game
modality.
The system includes an executive interface allowing an instructor or doctor to create
virtually hundreds of patients with unique medical conditions/injuries. Any patient case includes
defining 19 physiological parameters from heart rate to potassium levels, a patient history description,
Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability and Environment (A-B-C-D-E) assessments, optimal A-B-C-D-E
procedures and a functional physiologic time-based response to any applied medical procedure.
The prototype game is available on our
Demos Page.
